Gazette Builder separates WordPress publication status<\/strong> from Gazette Builder release timing<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A published Entry may be available immediately, or it may be held back until a specific Release Date. This allows content to be prepared and published in WordPress without necessarily making it readable yet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How Release Eligibility Works<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The basic rule is:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \n
  • A published Entry with no Release Date<\/strong> is available immediately.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • A published Entry with a Release Date in the past or present<\/strong> is available.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • A published Entry with a future Release Date<\/strong> is withheld until that date arrives.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • A draft or otherwise unpublished Entry<\/strong> is not available to readers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    This means an empty Release Date and a dated Release Date behave differently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    An undated published Entry is treated as available now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    A dated published Entry is controlled by that date.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Release Date on an Entry<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    The Release Date<\/strong> field appears in the GazetteBuilder Entry Details section when editing an Entry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Use it when an Entry should remain unavailable until a specific date and time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    For example:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Release Date: 09\/15\/2026 08:00<\/pre>\n\n\n\n
    Until that date is reached, GazetteBuilder treats the Entry as unreleased even though WordPress itself may consider the Entry published.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
    Once the Release Date passes, the Entry becomes available automatically.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
    Leaving Release Date Empty<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
    If the Release Date field is left empty, GazetteBuilder does not wait for a scheduled release.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
    A published Entry with no Release Date is immediately eligible for normal reader access.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
    This is useful for reference material that should simply become available as soon as it is published.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The Not Published Page<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
    Gazette Builder provides a dedicated administration screen:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
    GazetteBuilder \u2192 Not Published<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
    Despite the page name, this screen does not<\/strong> contain only Entries that are hidden from readers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
    It includes Entries that do not currently have a recorded Release Date, including published Entries that are already available because their Release Date is blank.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
    That distinction is important.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
    A published Entry with an empty Release Date is immediately readable under GazetteBuilder\u2019s release rules. It may still appear on the Not Published<\/strong> page because it has never been given a specific GazetteBuilder release timestamp.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
    In other words:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
      \n
    • Blank Release Date<\/strong> \u2014 the Entry is available immediately, but no formal release date has been recorded.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Future Release Date<\/strong> \u2014 the Entry is withheld until that date.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Past or current Release Date<\/strong> \u2014 the Entry has a recorded release date and is available.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
      The Not Published<\/strong> page is therefore useful for identifying Entries that have not yet been given a formal release date, not simply Entries that readers cannot see.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
      Release Immediately<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
      Using the release action on the Not Published<\/strong> page assigns the current date and time as the Entry\u2019s Release Date.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
      If the Entry was already readable because its Release Date was blank, this does not make previously hidden content visible. Instead, it changes the Entry from:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      available with no recorded release date<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
      to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
      \n
      available with a recorded release date of now<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
      The Entry remains readable afterward because its new Release Date is already eligible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
      If the Entry was being withheld for some other release condition represented on the page, assigning the current date likewise makes it immediately release-eligible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
      Why an Available Entry May Appear Here<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
      Seeing a readable Entry on Not Published<\/strong> can look contradictory at first.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
      The reason is that Gazette Builder treats an empty Release Date as immediately available<\/strong>, while the administration page treats that same empty Release Date as not yet formally released with a recorded date<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
      So the page is best understood as a release-management queue rather than a simple list of inaccessible content.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
      Both are readable, but they preserve different release information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
      Why the Distinction Matters<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
      This gives GazetteBuilder two useful release patterns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
      Immediate, Undated Publication<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
      Publish the Entry and leave Release Date empty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
      The Entry is available immediately and carries no Gazette Builder release timestamp.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
      Scheduled or Recorded Release<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
      Give the Entry a Release Date, either in advance or by releasing it from the Not Published<\/strong> page.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
      The Entry becomes available when that date is reached and keeps that date as part of its release information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
      The Not Published<\/strong> page is therefore not just an override. It converts withheld material into an immediately released, dated Entry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
      Story Entries<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
      Story Entries use the same release model.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
      A Story Entry with a future Release Date remains unavailable even if earlier Story positions are already readable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
      Gazette Builder prevents readers from advancing into unreleased Story steps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
      If a reader attempts to reach an unavailable Story position directly, Gazette Builder redirects them away from that step rather than exposing it early.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
      When the next Story Entry reaches its Release Date, normal progression can continue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
      Release Dates and Other Gazette Builder Views<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
      Release eligibility is also used by GazetteBuilder when determining whether an Entry should appear in reader-facing features.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
      A future-dated Entry should remain unavailable until its Release Date passes, even if it otherwise belongs in an Entry Type index, semantic relationship listing, timeline, or Story sequence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
      This prevents unreleased material from becoming visible indirectly through another GazetteBuilder feature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
      Typical Uses<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
      For material that should be available as soon as it is published:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
      Status: Published
      Release Date: empty<\/pre>\n\n\n\n
      For material scheduled for later:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
      Status: Published
      Release Date: future date<\/pre>\n\n\n\n
      For material that was being withheld but should now be released:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      1. Open GazetteBuilder \u2192 Not Published<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      2. Locate the Entry.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      3. Use the page’s release action.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      4. Gazette Builder assigns the current date and time as the Release Date.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
