Brugge has no temples, although the center architectural entity of the city is its vast and gloriously done cathedral. The cathedral is known as the Cathedral of Brugge, although inscribed over the door is the words, "Yggdrasil tree of life, Home of the Allfather of the world", so some pilgrims refer to it as Yggie's Cathedral. Open to all faiths, it is an architectural marvel. Built several hundred years ago, it stands magnificently in the center of town and is the destination of pilgrims the world over.

The main transept is 1100 feet long, the cross transept 500 feet. The walls of the cathedral climb into the heavens for slightly more than 300 feet giving the appearance inside of being in a deep crevice. The twin towers bracketing the main entrance shoot skyward for 400 feet and are accessed through a thin and long stairways up through the solid stone of the towers themselves.

Because of its height, the cathedral dominates the skyline of the city as well as most of the nearby countryside. It can be seen for more than 40 miles on a clear day.
